Bywgraffiad yr Awdur / Author Biography

Kate Roberts (1891-1985) was one of the foremost Welsh-language authors of the 20th century. Born the daughter of a slate quarryman in Rhosgadfan, Gwynedd, she graduated in Welsh from the University of Wales, Bangor, and went on to become a teacher, a publisher and a newspaper editor. She is known for her short stories and novels set in north Wales, such as Traed mewn Cyffion (Feet in Chains, 1936) and Te yn y Grug (Tea in the Heather, 1959). Gillian Clarke is a Welsh poet and playwright, and former National Poet of Wales. She has published numerous collections of poetry for both adults and children, and is widely studied on GCSE and A level syllabuses. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Literature and a member of the Gorsedd of Bards, and has been awarded both the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry and the Wilfred Owen Poetry Award.
