Dan Benham set up Benham Architects 10 years ago, placing people and community at the heart of its ethos. Working alongside IBI Group, the practice designed the award winning building, Grange Pavilion, which champions social value within Wales. Dan was the youngest President of the Royal Society of Architects in Wales, and has been part of many thought provoking exhibitions and talks that have allowed people to engage with the design community of Wales and ask key questions about the future of Welsh architecture and what does it mean for the country. As a tutor and visiting lecturer at Cardiff University / Welsh School of Architecture, Dan has strong design credentials with notions of architecture that stem from simple place making and pushing the boundaries of spatial understanding. Claire Benham is a multidisciplinary practitioner who pairs a rigorous background in sculpture and architecture with a spirit of childlike wonder. After earning her degree in Fine Art Sculpture and spending a transformative decade immersed in the culture of Hiroshima, Japan, Claire returned to the UK to study Interior Architecture-all of which inform her unique, tactile approach to storytelling. For Claire, materials are not just tools, but treasures to be discovered. She approaches the act of recycling as a grand adventure, reclaiming found objects and “playing” with their textures to see what they might become. By synthesizing her spatial sensibility with a curiosity for repurposed materiality, she transforms the forgotten into the extraordinary. Her illustrations act as a bridge between sophisticated design and the pure joy of discovery, inviting young readers to see the potential and magic in the world around them.
