Robert H. Griffiths is a former police officer turned local historian. He lives in Denbigh. He has also written The Story of Kinmel Park Military Training Camp 1914 to 1918, in 2014.

Through extensive research the author has unearthed truly interesting stories of bravery, endeavour, struggle, tragedy and loss during the Great War. These stories are of Wales and its people in the tumultuous war years of 1914 to 1918, with the emphasis on the northern part of the country. North Wales had combatants in all of this war's major battlefield conflagrations, and the losses at sea, including the notorious sinking by a German U-Boat of the passenger liner RMS Lusitania. You will read of Welsh munitions factories and their workers, and of Welsh soldiers away from their homeland reinforcing their Welsh identities through the holding of Soldiers' Eisteddfodau. Welsh National Eisteddfodau, the great Welsh cultural festivals struggled greatly during these war years and here those difficulties are explored, and involved some of Wales' most iconic figures of the early 20th century including David Lloyd George and Ellis Humphrey Evans, 'Hedd Wyn'.
