Daniel Morden is a professional storyteller whose illustrious career has taken him all over the world, from Abergavenny to New York, the Arctic to the Caribbean. He visits many schools and libraries across the UK and is a regular performer at literature festivals across the country.

These nine stories from master story-teller Daniel Morden provide the perfect read aloud experience – or story-telling experience, if you happen to be good at that too. They are fairy tales rather than legends, and two of them have definite kinship with the traditional stories of Cinderella and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice but with great differences. Morden glories in the use of alliteration and his words spring from the page as though being spoken: 'crucibles, candles and cauldrons, books, bowls and bones, shelves of skulls ...' In fact, words of all sorts are his metier and they sing and zing throughout, rollicking and enjoying themselves. We enjoy them too, along with Brett Breckon’s wonderfully evocative black and white illustrations. The collection has everything: wisdom and foolishness, heaven and hell, birth and death, magic and meaning, luck and bad luck, morality and immorality – and how not to be secretive! There is so much here from which to learn more about our world and how to live in it. A beautifully produced small book which will appeal to all ages but particularly to children of 8 to 12.
