Nigel Jenkins (1949-2014) was a much-loved poet, haiku-writer and cultural commentator in both languages, and a past winner of Wales Book of the Year. He was the Director of the Creative Writing programme at the University of Swansea, and was prominent in the cultural life of the city. He is the author of the Real Swansea and Real Swansea Two, and was one the editors of the Welsh Encyclopaedia.

Gower was the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK and is rightly famous for its beaches, its surfing and its history. Real Gower joins the two halves of lordship of Gower, the tourism of the peninsula (Gower Anglicana) and the more remote ‘Gower of the Hills’ in the centre and north (Gower Wallicana), place of traditional work. Their differences are linked by a dramatically beautiful landscape.
