Eileen Younghusband was born in London in 1921. At the age of 87, Eileen graduated from the Open University as one of its students of the year. She was honoured with a British Empire Medal in 2013 for her services to lifelong learning. Eileen sadly passed away in 2016, not long after the release of Eileen's War, a children's edition of her award-winning novel One Woman's War. On the 4th of July 2025, to celebrate what would have been Eileen's 104th birthday, Candy Jar Books published Eileen's full memoir, Not An Ordinary Life.

Guided by her favourite motto – “No problems, only solutions” – Eileen lived every chapter of her life with resilience and irrepressible spirit. At just nineteen, Eileen joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force and was soon posted to the RAF’s top secret Filter Room, tracking enemy aircraft and helping to defend Britain during its darkest hours – work she kept secret for decades and would later recount in her award-winning novel One Woman’s War.
