With a sometimes magical, but always super-sharp clarity, Brookes captures the tension between isolation and connection, showing how even in enforced distance, human lives continue to touch each other in so many meaningful ways. But the most uplifting and inspiring thing for me about Brookes’ writing, is that it finds grace in the everyday, it doesn’t busy itself with trying to find answers, but by finding recognition. He reminds us that wisdom is often found in noticing, and that compassion, however small, remains our most vital shared language.
