Gwyn Briwnant Jones was born and educated in Machynlleth and lives now in Cardiff. A retired art teacher, he is held in high esteem as a railway historian and a specialist on the Corris line. His enthusiasm and knowledge is reflected in the titles he has published over the years.

Any who witnessed the demise of the old Corris Railway in 1948 can surely recall the feeling of gloom and sadness at the time. There was then, obviously, no way of anticipating a revival of the railway, in any form, but consequent events have been little short of miraculous. Thanks to the enthusiasm, dedication and sheer hard work by members, the railway has a bright future before it once more. Since the publication of A Corris Celebration in 2009, various photographs or artefacts have emerged unexpectantly to stir the memory and kindle fresh impetus for another publication. Including anecdotes and facts about the local family affair that was the Old Corris, in his foreword, Richard Saffery says, “These gems are lovingly recalled and clearly relayed for the benefit of current and future generations of Corrisites. He continues to enhance our view of the historic Railway through vitalising detail of its place in the industrial and communal life of the area that it served.”
